Tension In Osogbo Over Campaign Billboards Destruction
Senator Sola Adeyeye, representing Osun Central
senatorial district, condemned the destruction of billboards and the
defacing of campaign posters.
The story started when the citizens of Osun State capital, Osogbo, woke up yesterday to find the posters of both Prof. Adeyeye of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and those of Dr. Daisi Aina, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, destroyed.
The acts of vandalism carried out in the Aiyetoro, Odi Olowo and Olaiya areas of the city, caused tension among people there, Leadership reports.
Adeyeye condemned the deeds while briefing journalists in Osogbo. The senator described the development as “reprehensible and irrational”, adding that politics should be approached with decorum.
Meanwhile the political parties yesterday signed a peace pact to avoid actions that might endorse violence during and after the upcoming elections.
After several incidents of violence in various states, and with the memory of 2011’s sad experience, it became necessary to reach such a deal in order not to have the tragedy repeated.
