How I Infected Over 100 Patients With HIV- Doctor
A doctor was arrested on a charge of torture after infecting more than 100 patients with HIV, causing an outbreak that has infected more than 300 people, police in Cambodia said.
Now, 55-year-old Yem Chroeum of Roka, has been sentenced to
serve 25 years in prison after being convicted of torture in connection with the largest outbreak of HIV in the country.
According to the police investigation, Chroeum used dirty needles to treat patients at his clinic, causing them to be infected with HIV.
At the Provincial Court of Battambang, Chroeum said that he did not have bad intentions. He claimed to have healed the poor who were unable to pay for medical treatment.
In addition to prison, Chroeum has been ordered to pay compensation to the victims and the government. Chroeum did not have a license to practice medicine.
