APC, PDP Make APC, PDP Make N3.8bn From Sale Of 2015 Election Forms


The All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have made a total sum of N3.8billion from the sale of presidential and governorship forms, according to a tally by Daily Trust.
PDP presidential forms sold for N22 million with expression of interest forms selling at N2 million while the nomination forms went for N20 million.
President Goodluck Jonathan and Abduljhalil Tafawa-Balewa obtained the two forms while, Professor Akasuba Duke- Abiola bought only the expression of interest forms. The party made N46 million from the sale of presidential forms alone.
The PDP gubernatorial forms sold at N11 million with one million for expression of interest and 10 million for nomination.
Asides from Gombe State where the governor is standing unopposed, the PDP has not less than five aspirants in each of the 29 states where there will be governorship elections in 2015.
The South South zone in PDP has the highest number of aspirants with 92, while the South East states that are having gubernatorial elections in 2015 have 43 and the North East, 33, while the North West has 48 North Central, 70 and South West 18.
APC presidential forms were sold for N27.5 million as the expression on interest forms sold at N2.5 million and nomination forms went for N25 million.
Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, Sam Nda-Isaiah and Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso have picked the forms. The party made N110 million from the sale of presidential forms.
For governorship, APC sold expression of interest forms for N500, 000 and nomination forms for N5 million making a total of N5.5 million for each aspirant.
Not less than 102 aspirants have purchased forms to contest for the governorship tickets of the party which gave the party N561 million.
APC has exempted physically challenged persons and women from paying for forms while in the PDP women are only required to pick expression of interest forms.
The women contesting for the governorship positions in the PDP include Ngozi Olejeme in Delta and RoselineAda Chenge in Benue State.
APC officials say the funds generated would be used to run party.
Mai Mala Buni, APC national secretary, said such funds are always channeled to finance other activities of the party.
“Everyone knows that party activities are being run using the money generated through such ways. So no political party can survive without a way of financing its activities, “he said.
He added that the party also has to employ people who run the day- to- day activities which it will need money to pay for their services which must come from the money it is getting from its sources of generating funds.
However Olisa Metuh, PDP national publicity secretary did not react to an SMS sent to him on what the party intends to do with the funds generated from the sale of forms.
Governorship elections will not hold in the following seven states of Osun, Bayelsa, Kogi, Anambra, Ondo, Edo and Ekiti states in 2015.
